Facelift: What to expect and everything you need to know
As we get older, our skin and tissues naturally loses their elasticity which leads to wrinkles and saggy skins. A remedy for this is facial rejuvenation surgery which can be conducted by Dr. Van Den Broeck in Mauritius.
What is a facelift?
A facelift is a small surgical operation conducted to lift and tighten sagging skin on the face and neck. It involves removing excess skin, smoothing out folds or wrinkles and tightening facial tissues. A brow or eyelift may be done at the same time, after consultation with Dr. Van Den Broeck. A facelift focusses on the bottom two-thirds of the face and the neck. A common reason for this surgery in Mauritius is to help disguise the signs of ageing.
How to ensure a safe surgery?
To ensure that the surgical operation is conducted in a safe way and the results meet your expectations, there are some important points to consider.
- First of all, you must ensure that your plastic surgeon is trained, board-certified and has experience in facelifting. Now operating in Mauritius, Dr Van Den Broeck, is plastic surgeon recognised by the Belgian Ministry of Health since 1996. Throughout his career, he has worked with several experts both in Mauritius and abroad. As such, there is no need to worry about his capabilities or experience.
- Good candidates for a facelift include healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that can interfere with wound healing or recovery from surgery and who do not smoke or misuse substances. If you wish to know whether you are a good candidate for a facelift in Mauritius, Dr. Van Den Broeck can advise you on the matter. Dr. Van Den Broeck might ask you to stop taking certain medications or adjust the dosage before the procedure.
- As with any surgery, a facelift might involve certain risks that you should be aware of. For instance, there may be infection, numbness, scarring, bleeding or temporal palsy. To make an informed decision about whether a facelift is right for you, you must take the advice of your surgeon. In Mauritius, Dr. Van Den Broeck always precedes surgeries with a face to face consultation during which you will be given a detailed explanation on the facelift.
- You must have a realistic expectation of what the surgery entail. A long discussion with Dr. Van Den Broeck will enlighten you on the matter. It should be noted that Dr. Van Den Broeck strives to make all his surgical procedures as natural and undetectable as possible.
After a facelift
The recovery time for a face lift is usually 7 to 14 days. You should give yourself approximately two weeks before resuming a normal level of daily activity.
You must expect some swelling, pain and discomfort. This is normal. However, Dr. Van Den Broeck will prescribe some pain medication.
Dr. Van Den Broeck will also advise you on what you can do to ensure a successful facelift. To help extend the results, moisturise your face daily, protect it from the sun, and adopt a generally healthy lifestyle.
